Threat Advisory

Apache NiFi Vulnerability Enables Authorization Restriction Bypass

Threat: Vulnerability
Targeted Region: Global
Targeted Sector: Technology & IT
Criticality: High

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

Apache NiFi has Vulnerability tracked as CVE-2026-25903 that impacts how authorization rules are enforced for restricted components. The flaw stems from improper validation of restricted permissions when users update configuration properties on certain extension components. As a result, lower-privileged users may be able to modify settings that should require elevated authorization. This issue affects Apache NiFi versions from 1.1.0 through 2.7.2, placing a wide range of deployments at potential risk. Restricted components typically handle sensitive data flows or critical system functions, increasing the potential impact of misuse. The vulnerability is caused by missing authorization checks during component updates rather than during initial component placement. Organizations relying on strict role-based access controls within NiFi environments are particularly exposed if the vulnerability is not addressed.

RECOMMENDATION:

We strongly recommend you update Apache NiFi to version 2.8.0.
